The Gion Matsuri festival is one of the three most famous festivals in Japan, and it is well known for its long history and length of the festival period (1 month). The highlight of the festival is the Yamaboko Junko on July 17, where as many as 32 beautifully decorated floats are paraded through the city. Gorgeous tapestries, jacquard (Tsuzure-ori), and Nishijin-ori textiles are used to decorate the floats.
