Arima Onsen spa is said to be one of the oldest springs in Japan. This traditional event, held on New Years Day to pray for the prosperity of the hot spring, dates back to the Edo Period. Many events are held, including yumomi performed by Shinto priests, monks and spa owners in the costumes of spa-maids.
