Introduction of The Festival

Funayose Odori Fukui Pref

This is a group dance in which everyone joins in Funayose village as one of the Bon events, so called Bon Odori. Bon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is said to have started in 1570 when Kurosaka Kagehisa, retainer of Asakura Yoshikage (a warring lord in Fukui Prefecture), joined to attack on Oda Nobunaga.
