Introduction of The Festival

Inugai Nosonbutai Tokushima Pref

Awa Ningyo-joruri puppet play in Nosonbutai theater

The theater, which was built in 1873, is valuable because it kept the most similar configuration to the original. Ningyo-joruri (Japanese puppet show) in the Awa area (current Tokushima Prefecture) features Nosonbutai (literally, stages in villages). Nozonbutai are usually built in shrines and the puppet plays are performed occasionally such as shrines’ festivals.
