Shiimura Shrine Festival Fukui Pref

The festival features Shishi-mai (Kylin lion dance) and Tengu-mai (long-nosed goblin dance) dedicated to the Shiimura Shrine. A Kylin lion dance is performed by two dancers. Tengu-mai is also called King’s dance. Tengu, holding a weapon decorated with gohei (ritual wand with pleated paper), jumps to exorcize evil spirits and kick off wild boars that are harmful to crops.
