Bon Odori in Ueno Fukui Pref

This is a group dance in which everyone joins as one of the Bon events. Bon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. It is said to have started in the beginning of the Edo period (1603 _ 1867 A.D.), when they celebrated the completion of Ueno Yosui (irrigation reservoir in Ueno village) .
